Who we are
CTRL ALT Shift is a South African film and television company dedicated to
reshaping the narrative landscape of African cinema. We believe in the power
of storytelling to challenge established perspectives and create new
dialogues about Africa's multifaceted reality.
Our Mission
We develop and produce factual and narrative content that captures the
complexity and diversity of African experiences. Through our film
production, arts management, and industry consulting work, we aim to shift
global perspectives and create authentic representations that resonate
both locally and internationally.

We provide specialized consulting services for festivals, cultural institutions, and industry initiatives. Our expertise includes program curation, strategic planning, and implementation of innovative industry development projects.
Our portfolio spans documentary and fiction filmmaking, with projects that have gained recognition at prestigious international festivals including Cairo International Film Festival, Encounters South African International Documentary Festival, and global platforms.
Our company has facilitated Engage, a groundbreaking pan-African think tank and conversation series that functions as community-driven research on African screen industries. In collaboration with international partners and global platforms, Engage creates vital spaces for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and industry advancement.

The Team
Tiny Mungwe worked at STEPS where she has produced Generation Africa, a collection of 25 films, from 16 African countries on migration and a collections of 11 short films for Mzansi in a time of Covid. Through CTRL ALT Shift, she is releasing feature doc Womxn: Working in 2024/25. She has written Evelyn and directed Daddys Boy, both short films, and directed and produced Akekho uGogo, a med-length documentary. Her TV work includes writing for Muvhango, Matatiele and directing on Uzalo. Mungwe has also organised and programmed festivals including four international festivals: Time of the Writer, the Durban International Film Festival, Jomba! Contemporary Dance Festival and Poetry Africa and curated film programs for Durban FilmMart, Talents Durban. She is the co-founder of Engage, an itinerant knowledge production initiative consisting of think tanks and industry dialogue about the ext horizons for the African screens. She has worked as a mentor at DFM, Great Lakes Producers Lab, Hotdocs and with EFM Toolbox programme. She is part of the DFM Future Mentors programme as a contributor, curriculum and trainer. She is also the founder of Ehozini Retreat, an artist residency in Maphephetheni, eThekwini. She was a participant in the 2024 EAVE producers workshop. tiny@ctrlaltshift.co.za
Mitchell Harper is a curator, producer, arts manager and consultant from South Africa and Ireland specialising in the arts in areas of film, with over a decade of experience in the film industry. He was the Durban FilmMart’s Industry Programme Curator and a member of the Locarno Open Doors Artistic Team. He has worked with festivals on Durban International Film Festival, Berlinale Talents, the African International Film Festival, DocsIreland, Belfast Film Festival, the European Union Film Festival, The National Arts Festival, the Cape Town International Film Market and Festival, and DigiFest4. He co-founded Engage, a Pan-African Think Tank aimed to create and foster continental networks, with activities at the Durban FilmMart, Toronto International Film Festival, 10th African International Film Festival, and European Film Mart. He has worked in film development, including the Durban FilmMart Institute’s Future Mentors Programme, and as a programme manager of the iLembe Story Lab. He is a partner of Ctrl. Alt. Shift, a creative industry consultancy and production company, hav produced documentary and fiction projects screened at local and international festivals. He has participated as a member of programmes such as Locarno Pro: Under 30, Locarno Southern African Industry Academy and NFVF’s SEDIBA producer’s programme. mitchell@ctrlaltshift.co.za
